My name is Eleni Smith and this is my first year in District 301. This is my seventh year as an educator and I am thrilled to join the amazing staff at Howard B. Thomas as the new Reading Specialist. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I also recently earned my Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist from Loyola University in Chicago. I am looking forward to getting to know all of the children and their families this year. I am excited to share my love of reading with HBT!
Debbie Mastio is my name and reading is my game! I have been teaching reading at HBT for 17 years. I have 27 years of teaching experience in diverse areas. My previous teaching experiences include teaching hearing impaired students, second grade, and preschool. I started my teaching career after I graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign /Urbana with Mid-Valley Special Education Coop and then taught second grade for St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 at Wasco School. While I was teaching second grade I earned a MS degree in reading from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. I took some time off to raise a family and taught preschool part-time. I am passionate about reading and love children’s literature. I hope that the students I have the privilege to work with will also develop a love for reading! |
